Day #01 - Music from the soul on 483 Bloor St West.
I usually walk to Harbourfront when I need to reflect and meditate. There’s nothing more soothing than water and nature. But today, I turned around instead and decided to head up towards Bloor and Bathurst. All I wanted was a cafe where I could sit and relax. Had the Green Beanery in mind but they didn’t have a patio so went to Future Cafe instead. And right there, across the cafe, I witnessed the most beautiful of all music: melodies the soul. There’s always been something about violins that move me deeply.
Three gentlemen were playing at the corner of Bloor West and Brunswick Ave. Two young men were playing the harps while the violin was lead by an older men. The dancing notes flowing resulted in a sublime melody. Even people walking by stopped all of a sudden to contemplate and taste the passion irradiated by these three strangers. It was a very hot day, their faces were red, their skin were burning red because of the sun, and yet they still managed to become one with their music. You can have talent, but it would be nothing without passion. It was such an inspiring event to witness. They could be anywhere, doing anything that would earn them more money probably. But they weren’t there because of the cash, they were playing under the sun because they become alive with their notes. Doing what you like isn’t always easy, in fact, it’s not even easy at all. But that’s no reason to give up, it’s a reason to fight harder and see how bad you want something.
Didn’t have a lot of change with me, only had $3 left, so I gave them what I had. But I was deeply moved by their determination and passion, so I bought them a “Good Luck” card nearby with my credit card. I don’t think they noticed when I dropped it to them because they were talking to someone else, wish they knew. But that wouldn’t have made a difference. What I wanted was for them to know how much I appreciated them playing, it’ll be a gift from a stranger then :).
