Two Questions to Close the Greatness Gap

heyamberrae:

“Musicians must make music, artists must paint, poets must write if they are to be ultimately at peace with themselves. What human beings can be, they must be. They must be true to their own nature. This need we may call self-actualization… It refers to man’s desire for self-fulfillment, namely to the tendency for him to become actually in what he is potentially: to become everything one is capable of becoming.” - Abraham Maslow

Soulpancake: Chew on life’s big questions
Had a nice night out with a very dear friend of mine. Every time we get together, other than catching up and talking about the endless spins of life, we also look for ways to inspire one another. Sounds cheesy, but bare with me!
Ever since last year, we tried to meet at least once a week. Out meetings usually started with a) Exploring a new cafe/restaurant b) A quick super chit chat update of each others super interesting life *no sarcasm intended..yeah right* c) Ways to re-connect with ourselves. Ever since school has ended for us, things have been a bit tough. Emotionally overall, as if the shock of reaching the end goal was way too much to handle. This sense of insecurity of not having a guide or teacher to tell you what your next step should be is quite daunting. Specially after sweating your past 1,460 days (or even more) to make sure you reach this finish line and get that well deserved degree of a college graduate. Seems like there are so many options out there yet none of them are appealing…We lost our sense of selves throughout these years. Been entirely excessively obsessively too focused being on autopilot and following the norm. Anyways, we started to meet up and we started talking about what inspires each and a zillion of ideas, books, movies…everything, started flowing…It’s actually a pretty therapeutic session everytime.
So today, after being crazy busy for these past weeks, she brought this book up!
I flipped through it and fell deeply in love. Just ordered it right now, couldn’t be more excited! It’s a book full of quotes, colors, random doodles and activities that lead to self reflection. Here’s a a link to their website : http://soulpancake.com/

CAN’T WAIT FOR IT TO ARRIVE!

Fear & Permission- Chris Guillebeau

” We try to bargain with fear, a deal with fear. And the bargain we try to make is: OK, I won’t take any risks, I won’t do anything to drastic and in return it’ll leave us alone and let us live our little lives. Now sometimes it works but just like the crocodile, sometimes fears decides to break the bargain. It doesn’t want to play by the rules anymore. When it does that, it introduces us to a few of his friends: discontent, dissatisfaction and regret. And the little life becomes a life of quiet desperation where we start to ask ourselves questions… is that it? Is that all there is? …

…So we make these rationalizations because we know that if we’re really going to acknowledge fear, if we are really going to engage with it, to overcome it, It will probably involve some kind of dramatic personal change…”
